Bay Islands Of Honduras
The Diving Locker's next warm water dive vacation presents a unique opportunity to dive one of the world's greatest scuba locations with knowledgable dive professionals. Roatan is known by those who have experienced it as the Caribbean's best-kept secret. The island's most outstanding feature is the coral reef that virtually encircles it ... part of the second largest coral reef system in the world. Roatan's reef is highly accessible to divers. Diving and snorkeling are the island's principal tourist activities. The West End is an excellent center for exploring the fabulous reef around Roatan. There are over 130 identified and named dive sites around the island, most of them only a few minutes from shore.
Roatan is well known as a world-class scuba diving site due to its pristine waters, great coral reefs, and abundance of sea life. In 1995, the Honduran government built a modern airport to encourage international tourism. Most tourists travel to the town of West End, which is built around a small bay and scuba activities. West End is a scenic sleepy little village just eight blocks long. A dirt road runs though this village and three-inch nautical ropes act as speed bumps. Of course, there are lots of small cafes, family run inns, dive centers, and gift shops along that dirt road. In the past few years, the cruise industry has discovered the quaint charms of the West End. Now various cruise ships have Roatan as part of their Western Caribbean cruise itinerary.
We will dive 2-3 times per day, visit the local town, relax in hammocks, visit the nearby beaches where we can have lunch and cocktails. There will be optional night and shark dives as well.
Our eco-friendly accommodations are located just a couple of minutes walk from the nearest restaurants and dive shops. With ocean views from the rooms and a pool overlooking the water, you are sure to fully experience the Caribbean lifestyle. Each room has a balcony equipped with a hammock for your full relaxation after a day of diving.
