How Did I Get into Diving?

At age 12, Karly was lucky enough to hop into a pool for an introductory diving session in Dominican Republic on a family holiday. Ten years later, after patiently finishing her schooling and saving up for travels, she found her way to the sea and graduated to ocean diving in Koh Tao, Thailand, where she completed her Open Water Certification.

She still remembers her first dive – after looking through a tiny crevasse and spotting a bluespotted ribbontail ray peering back at her with cartoon-like eyes, she was hooked on diving and determined to explore the ocean and its creatures!

She happily scrubbed bathrooms on liveaboards around Australia’s Great Barrier Reef just to earn more dive time and spent the next three years roaming around Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, in search of good vis and neat marine life!

She went on to complete her Advanced Open Water in Gili Trawangan, Indonesia, and has plans to complete her Rescue here in Vancouver!

Diving drew Karly back to her home country, Canada, to study the thing she loves most – the ocean. She is currently working towards a Master of Science at the University of British studying ocean pollution and, of course, jumping back in local waters whenever she can!
