Sundays @ 9am

Perfect for divers of all levels, whether you are accustomed to our waters here or want to do your first coldwater dive, this is a great place to start! Dive sites include Whytecliff Park & Porteau Cove.

Our Wednesday trips are great for those who don’t have the privilege of having weekends off. We typically have smaller groups which allow us to explore some different sites Howe Sound has to offer.

Sunshine Coast @ Tuwanek

We run Sunshine Coast Safari’s once a month (usually towards the end of the month). The site we most commonly dive is Tuwanek, where we have frequent encounters with wolf eels, and Giant Pacific Octopus, and much much more. What makes this site a favorite, is the entry (almost little to no walking)!

 When:

Meet time is around 8 am (times may vary due to ferry schedule, please call to confirm) and we return around 6 pm (depending on traffic).

Requirements:

Divers must be able to provide proof of certification, and have done at least 4 cold water dives in the last 6 months (some exceptions may apply).

Although the difficulty level of this site is fairly easy, the trip itself is tailored to self-sufficient divers who have mastered their buoyancy control. The guide is there to provide surface support with any gear issues, provide a site briefing and lead the dives for those that would like to follow. Divers who haven’t quite mastered their buoyancy in the cold water or who require some extra attention and support are recommended to start with one of ourLocal Safari’s.

Nanaimo Boat Dive Trip
Mar 4 @ 7:00 am – 7:00 pm

Trip Details:

* Meet at the Diving Locker at 7am to catch the 8:30 ferry from Horseshoe Bay
* We’ll enjoy 2 Boat dives and have a break for lunch in between
* We will plan on catching the 5pm Ferry back to Vancouver

 Trip Cost $249.95 Includes:

Dive Sites:

Snake Island Wall – Snake Island Wall is located on the opposite side of Snake Island from the wrecks and is a great dive for all levels of divers. The start of the dive is a shallow shelf at 35 ft. with a short swim away from the island to a gentle curve that takes you over the edge of a wall to depths in excess of 600 ft. Newer divers can explore the upper edges of the wall at 60 ft. looking for buffalo sculpins, grunt sculpins, plumose anemonies, octopus, rockfish, and more. More experienced divers can explore the deeper depths with overhangs housing plumose anemonies, cloud, and boot sponges.

Orlebar Pt. – Located on the Northeastern part of Gabriola Island, this dive site offers shallower waters for newer divers as well as a deep wall for more experienced and technical divers. Here you will find sand flats, rock reef, and finally a wall with a wide variety of marine life in the shallows and along the wall. This is a great location for a variety of anemonie species including crimson, plumose, and painted anemonies.

Clark Rock – Clark Rock is a reef at a lighthouse a short distance out from the beach at Pipers Lagoon. The max depth of this dive is 60 ft. so it is good for all level of divers. The attraction for this site is variety of marine life including wolfeels, octopus, rockfish, lingcod, sea urchins, nudibranchs, and sculpins galore.

Jesse Island  – Jesse Island is located in Departure Bay, just inside the entrance so mostly protect from the elements outside the straight. The maximum depth for this dive is 60 ft. so it is great for all levels. At high tides there are swim throughs and interesting rock formations that offer protections to a wide variety of marine life. Look for sculpins, anemonies, octopus, nudibranchs among the many variety found here. This dive is a live dropoff and pickup with a slow drift along the wall.

Gabriola Bluffs – Looking from Nanaimo Harbour out to Gabriola Island you can see a series of steep bluffs. These bluffs continue down into the water with a series of shelves leading out to a deeper wall providing the opportunity for divers of all levels to experience the marine life here. Nudibranchs, crabs, plumose anemonies, crimson anemonies, and others can be seen along different parts of the wall. This dive is a live drop off and pickup with a slow drift along the wall.

We run local Sunday Safari’s once a month, usually on the first or second Sunday. Join us for two dives at Porteau Cove (weather depending), a great local site for divers of all levels. Whether this is your first cold water dive, or you are an experienced veteran, Porteau Cove has it all.

Includes:

  • 2 Tanks, weights
  • 2 guided shore dives
  • Transportation (when available)

When:

Meet time is at 9am (at The Diving Locker) and we return around 4 pm (depending on traffic).

Requirements:

Divers must be able to provide proof of certification, and have been diving within the last 12 months. Anyone wishing to rent a drysuit must be able to provide proof of training.

Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellation by Wednesday before the trip is required to get In-store Credit (can be used towards any future purchase).
  • Later Cancellation is not credited unless the spot is filled.

The Spectacular dive sites range from relatively shallow wall dives with huge rock scallops and octopus to deeper dive sites festooned with cloud sponges and corals.

“MV Shorebird” 23′ dive boat that accommodates six scuba divers in comfort and carries all required safety equipment including first aid and emergency oxygen.

Meet the boat at the dock for our first dive

Depending on tides, we may stay on the boat for the surface interval before our 2nd dive or come back to the dock.
