Taveuni, Fiji: A Place That Keeps Calling Us Back

Taveuni, Fiji: A Place That Keeps Calling Us Back

There are some places you visit once and remember forever. Then there are places that somehow become a little piece of home. For us, Taveuni, Fiji, has become exactly that.

This year marked our third trip back to Taveuni, with our lead and instructor, Dani, once again guiding our team through this incredible corner of Fiji. And somehow, after all these years, the trip was just as incredible as the last.

Our team spent eight beautiful nights at Taveuni Dive Resort, a wonderfully off-grid little piece of paradise surrounded by lush tropical gardens and the ocean. It is the kind of place where life naturally slows down. There is no rush, no need to be anywhere else, and plenty of time to sit back, connect, explore, and simply enjoy where you are.

The resort also places a strong emphasis on sustainability and living in harmony with its surroundings. Their beautiful gardens provide fresh fruit that makes its way onto our breakfast tables and throughout the day, including papayas, bananas, and mangoes. Fresh flowers are placed in the bures when guests arrive and throughout the resort, adding to those little touches that make you feel genuinely cared for.

And the staff? They are truly something special.

From the moment we arrive, the team at Taveuni Dive Resort makes every guest feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated. They are kind, incredibly helpful, friendly, and somehow manage to make you feel less like a guest and more like you are coming home to visit friends. We appreciate them just as much as they appreciate us, and that connection is a huge part of why we continue to return.

Then There is the Diving. . .

Our team enjoyed five incredible days of diving, with the option to add additional dives at an additional cost, for those who wanted even more time underwater. We explored the legendary Rainbow Reef, one of Fiji’s most famous diving destinations, and it did not disappoint.

Rainbow Reef is known for exactly what its name suggests: an explosion of colour. Thousands upon thousands of lush, healthy corals create an underwater landscape filled with life. Large schools of fish move through the reef, while nudibranchs, octopus, eagle rays, wrasse, dolphins, different species of sharks, and countless other creatures make every dive feel like a new discovery.

For Dani, returning to Taveuni after first visiting 13 years ago was especially meaningful. One of the things that inspired us to come back was seeing just how little has changed beneath the surface. The reef remains remarkably beautiful and, in so many ways, feels untouched.

The Feeling Extends Beyond the Reef….

Over the past 13 years, Taveuni itself has changed very little. Of course, there have been small changes, but the island has managed to retain something incredibly special. It is still small, lush, peaceful, and deeply connected to its land, its people, and the ocean.

There is something about Taveuni that feels almost like stepping back in time. Life moves a little slower. People take the time to connect. The relationship between the community and the land feels tangible, and the ocean isn’t just something you visit — it is part of everyday life.

After a day of diving, there is nowhere better to unwind than back at Taveuni Dive Resort. With its beautiful mostly-freshwater pool, its own bar and grill, lush gardens, and views out toward the ocean, it is incredibly easy to settle in and forget what day it is.

We also want to send a huge thank you to the entire dive team for another incredible week. Their knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm made every day underwater something to look forward to. Thank you for showing us the incredible creatures that call Rainbow Reef home and for taking such amazing care of our divers.

We Couldn’t Leave Without Talking About What’s Next…

We’re going back!

Next October 4th – 12th 2027, we will once again be heading to Taveuni — but this time, we’re taking over the entire resort for our group of 15 guests, including one trip lead. To give all of our guides the opportunity to experience this incredible place, our Divemaster Jennifer will be leading next year’s adventure.

The trip will include eight nights at Taveuni Dive Resort and a 15-dive package, with double occupancy in the resort’s traditional Fijian bures. And one of the best parts? The cost is the same as this year’s trip.

If Taveuni has been sitting on your bucket list, this might be your sign.

Come explore Rainbow Reef, experience the Garden Island of Fiji, slow down for a little while, and discover why we keep finding our way back to this very special place.

If you have questions about the trip, give us a call and chat with Jennifer or Dani, or speak with any member of our team. We’d love to tell you all about Taveuni and what makes it so special.

Until next time, Taveuni. We already can’t wait to come back!
