PADI Drysuit Specialty

Experience Coldwater Diving Without the Cold!

Despite global warming, it will be sometime before our waters are as warm as the tropics. We offer ongoing PADI Drysuit Courses all year round. Drysuit training is a prerequisite for rentals from The Diving Locker, as well as most other dive facilities.

Want to stay warm? Want to extend your scuba diving season? Then dive dry. A dry suit seals you off from the water and keeps you comfortable, even in surprisingly cold water. There is incredible diving in the world’s cooler regions and in some areas, conditions are even better in colder months. Becoming a dry suit diver allows you to expand your boundaries and dive more places, more often!

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

1.

Knowledge Development

During your classroom session, your instructor will teach you about the different styles of drysuits, which ones are best for the different conditions. You'll also learn how to properly maintain your drysuit, and what to wear underneath in order to stay warm.

2.

Confined Water

After your classroom session, you will head to the pool. You'll practice how to properly get in and out of your drysuit. In the water you will learn how to master buoyancy control, as well as proper safety procedures when using a drysuit.

3.

Two Ocean Dives

During your two ocean dives, you're going to spend a little bit of time working on some buoyancy skills. The best way to get comfortable using a drysuit, is practice! Your experienced instructor will help you dial in your buoyancy and shorten the learning curve.

The Drysuit Specialty Course is one Evening Class/Pool session, and two Ocean Dives (1 day). The evening class will take place during the week, and your ocean dives will be on either a Saturday or Sunday.

Diving in BC - Drysuit Diving

Drysuits keep you dry but what you where underneath of them is what keeps you warm. The drysuits we use are made of a trilaminate material that have a latex seal around your neck and wrists, and built in boots. You’ll need to wear warm layers underneath such as fleece, wool, etc. in order to stay warm. We sell drysuit undergarments designed specifically for diving, but you likely already own some thermal layers that will be sufficient enough for your first few dives.

We also recommend picking yourself up a pair of dry gloves before your ocean dives, these will keep your hands much warmer than traditional neoprene gloves will, and you’ll have much more dexterity.

What to Bring?
  • Logbook
  • Snacks / Lunch / Water
  • Layers (if diving in a drysuit)
  • Mask and Snorkel
